Florian MÉTRAL
French Art Historian
Florian Métral is a French art historian, born in 1985.
A doctoral graduate of the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, he is currently a researcher at the University of Fribourg. His work focuses on Renaissance art, particularly the connections between art and science.
He is the author of Figurer la création du monde: Mythes, discours et images cosmogoniques dans l’art de la Renaissance, published by Actes Sud in 2019, and co-author of La Renaissance des origines: Commencement, genèse et création dans l’art des XVe et XVIe siècles, published by Brepols in 2022. A biography of Michelangelo is forthcoming from Éditions Calype, as well as a book on images of the birth of the universe from antiquity to the present day, to be published by Cohen&Cohen.
In 2020, he co-founded, with Muriel Catala, Les Rencontres de l’Histoire de l’Art, an annual event held in L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue (France) at Campredon Art & Image.
